Ten Kisses To Scandal by Vivienne Lorret

Every author should aspire to write with the same degree of thoughtfulness as Vivien Lorret. Her metaphors are brilliantly crafted, her characters wonderfully compelling and her dialogue so entertaining it will leave the reader enthralled.

Briar Bourne needs a win so she can prove to her sisters and to her uncle that she's just as capable of being a successful matchmaker as they are. Especially after her latest disaster where she accidentally paired a mother with her son, for it did not reflect well on the Bourne Matrimonial Agency. But when she meets Nicholas Blacklowe, the Earl of Edgemont, a daring plan starts to form in her head. What if the notorious rake could help her better understand what draws men and women together and how to determine compatibility?
What harm could there possibly be when he's not at all her type?
Briar is about to find out when he accepts her proposal on one condition: with each piece of advice he gives her, she must submit to a kiss, causing her to realize that she's flirting with the risk of scandal and the very real possibility of losing her heart to a scoundrel.

Nicholas is intrigued by Briar. She is the light to which he is drawn, and although he knows his judgment is skewed where she is concerned, he cannot seem to stop himself from seeking her out. As the two form a closer working relationship, Briar's kisses becomes something more than a payment, leading Nicholas to realize that he must risk being honest about a past transgression, if he is to save the one good thing in his life.

A brilliant page turner. Regency romance lovers are bound to devour this story!

Official Trailer - Miss Compton's Christmas Romance

I put this together using Getty Images and Rawshorts, which ended up being a bit of an ordeal. The first time around, I forgot to save, the second time, the voice got deleted from a couple of slides and I could not for the life of me get the same voice back, so once again, I had to start from the beginning...Oh, and it turned out that the images I'd initially selected through Rawshorts and created a beautiful trailer with, weren't royalty free, so that also meant I had to go back to square one. But, I now have the voice I want, some great alternatives to the original images and a trailer that's more or less decent...lol.

Here it is:

And Nanans Rook Reviews has also put a video together, which includes the blurb for the book and a lovely review.

The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

What a wonderful story! Julia Quinn's ability to create amusing dialogue between the characters shines, as do her brilliantly crafted moments of comic relief. A lovely continuation of the Bridgerton series.

Poppy Bridgerton is curious by nature, so when she discovers a cave during an un-chaperoned walk, she obviously has to explore it. Which is how she ends up kidnapped and on her way to Portugal with the incredibly handsome Captain Andrew James and his crew. The journey promises to be quite the adventure, even though Poppy has no intention of liking Captain James, no matter how well he treats her or how much he gradually tempts her. After all, he did kidnap her, which is not exactly gentlemanly behavior. But when danger strikes along the way, Poppy is forced to examine her feelings for the Captain and ask herself if he might be more than he seems and possibly even the man of her dreams.

The last thing Andrew Rokesby needs on his secret mission, is to have a Bridgerton tagging along, but he also can't leave Poppy behind and risk her revealing the cave she found to others. Too much is at stake for king and country, which leaves him with only one choice - she must come with him. The problems with this are a) the lack of sleeping space, which means she must stay in his cabin at the cost of his comfort, b) she talks all the time and is constantly asking questions, and c) she's far too pretty to not tempt a man into kissing her. Which would be disastrous because of who she is and who he is, and the trouble kissing could lead to. Which is why he decides not to give her his real name.

A fantastic seafaring tale of opposites finding common ground, companionship and of course, a very romantic happily ever after. This story will have you laughing out loud as you fall in love with the characters. A true page-turner that I cannot recommend highly enough.

The Lady Is Daring by Megan Frampton

Megan Frampton has once again written a marvelous story filled with humor and romance. This is the third book in The Duke's Daughters series and it was just as wonderful as the previous two!

Lady Ida Howlett wishes she had the courage to be seen as more than just the talkative know-it-all she invariably turns into at social events when she gets nervous. Exhausted by having to attend balls only to watch people's eyes glaze over as soon as she opens her mouth, and by her mother's determination to marry her off to a gentleman whom she knows she'd be miserable with, Ida leaps at the chance to go find her runaway sister when evidence of her location comes to light. To this end, she steals a carriage and sets her course for the north of England, only to discover that she's not alone. Bennett, Lord Carson, the man who was meant to marry two of her sisters until they decided to marry his brother and best friend instead, is with her, and he refuses to let her travel alone.

Bennett is tired and frustrated by the responsibilities of his life and by his father's insistence he marry in order to obtain a large dowry. Especially since his father is the one to blame for the family's depletion of funds. Wishing he could escape from it all, just for a while, he decides to accompany Lady Ida on her adventure to find her sister and bring her home, even though he's never really thought much of the youngest Howlett daughter. In the past, his attention has been on her sisters whom he was courting, while Ida...she always struck him as far too talkative and opinionated - the sort of woman a man would not wish to get trapped with. But as their journey together progresses, he discovers another side to Ida - an amusing, intelligent and vulnerable side she never lets anyone see.

When the two discover their feelings for each other have evolved into something so powerful it cannot be denied, they must decide if they can risk taking a chance on a shared future. Because Ida is not the quiet and reserved Society lady Bennett needs and he won't be able to offer her the peaceful life in a remote cottage that she is convinced she wants.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! It was very entertaining, the dialogue and plot so engaging I found it impossible to put down. This is the sort of book where you simply have to know what happens next. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The Girl Who Stepped Into The Past - Now Available in Print!

The Girl Who Stepped Into The Past is now available for purchase in print! Ebooks will go on sale June 5th, but can be pre-ordered today!
This is a time-travel murder mystery romance set during the Regency period. For more information, check out the blurb below and the beautiful artwork created by Chris Cocozza.

She was looking for inspiration…

When historical romance author Jane Edwards goes to England on a research trip, she doesn’t expect to travel two hundred years into the past. She also doesn’t expect to be accused of murdering the Earl of Camden’s sister. Presented with few choices, Jane decides the best course of action is to help Camden find the real killer. But the more time she spends in his company, the more she falls for the dashing earl, and the more she hopes for a life with him by her side.

And found love in the most impossible place.

James Sullivan, Earl of Camden, is convinced Jane had something to do with his sister’s murder. Until he learns she lacked the ability to accomplish the feat. Still, her explanation about stopping by his home in the middle of a rainstorm to seek employment, doesn’t add up. And yet, when he offers her the position she supposedly seeks, he discovers the smart resourceful woman she is. Which makes him wonder if marrying his new maid, might be worth the risk of scandal.

The Trouble With True Love by Laura Lee Guhrke

A wonderfully romantic escape, The Trouble With True Love, is a captivating read starring a very determined heroine and the sort of hero you wish would come bursting into your office :)

Clara Deverill is in a bit of a bind. With her sister away on her honeymoon and her brother's return to England postponed indefinitely, she has no choice but to run her family's newspaper business. Which wouldn't be so bad if it only consisted of managing the employees. But unfortunately it also means becoming the infamous Lady Truelove, which poses a bit of a problem since Clara has no idea how to offer the necessary advice the Lady Truelove column requires. Until she happens to overhear a private conversation between two gentlemen involving a detailed outline of how to continue bedding a woman without having to marry her. Outraged and inspired, Clara embraces her new persona in an effort to warn all women of men and their devious trickery.

Rex Galbreith is an undeniable flirt and a well-renowned rake who never plans to marry. But then he meets Clara and everything changes. Because this beauty appears to have no interest in him at all while also disliking him for reasons he can't quite seem to figure out. Until he discovers she overheard him telling his friend how to avoid marrying his mistress and that she has in fact written an entire article about it in her newspaper. Furious, he threatens to tell the world that Clara is Lady Truelove, but instead, she turns the table on him and he finds himself not only working with her, but falling for her in ways he never would have thought possible.

This story was thoroughly entertaining, consisting of an interesting plot and strong characters who struggled against the irresistible tug of true love. A read I would thoroughly recommend without question and one which can be read as a stand-alone although the prequel, Dear Lady Truelove, is definitely worth grabbing as well.

Cover Reveal - Avon Books & Sophie Barnes present: A Most Unlikely Duke

When work began on the cover for A Most Unlikely Duke – the first book in my new Diamonds in the Rough series – I was asked to provide character descriptions of the hero and heroine (who were actually inspired by Lilly James and Christian Bale). This was to be conveyed to the art department so they could scout for models. A few headshots were sent my way and I was allowed to take my pick, eventually settling on the gorgeous couple pictured below. And yes, they are in fact a couple in real life! Hence the fantastic chemistry between them =)
A time was set for a photo shoot and when my editor and her assistant stopped by for a look, they took all of these brilliant pictures – pictures that show a romance cover’s development from start to finish.

Clothes are selected and the models dress for the shoot.

Deep purple – exactly what I asked for!

Don’t worry about the shirt…it’s going to come off…

Shooting begins!

Similar poses, different expressions, lots of shots.

Instructing the model on mood and adding wind for effect…

Let’s take his shirt off now…

Perfect!

Here’s the final picture that I selected. The background was added along with the title, author font and Avon logo. Pretty spectacular, don’t you think?!?

The Rogue by Katharine Ashe

An intriguing start to a new series! Katharine Ashe is one of my favorites. Her penmanship is masterful, proving the point that words, when strung together correctly, can lead to a truly sublime reading experience.

Before I go any further, I should mention that this book, while being the first book in its own series, is actually the fourth book in The Falcon Club series. I realized this when I was half way through it and did a bit of research because I felt as though there were characters that I was supposed to know from other books. I've only read the first book in The Falcon Club series and that was a really long time ago, so I would certainly recommend grabbing all of those books first as I'm sure it will lead to a more satisfying read.
That being said, the suspense Ashe created in The Rogue - the mystery that the hero and heroine had to solve - kept the pages turning late into the night!

Lady Constance is a member of a secret society that specializes in gathering information in order to find missing people. Six years before the story's setting, she meets Saint, and loses her heart. But there are obstacles in the way of this couple's happiness - a manipulative father, a couple of fiancees, and Saint's inferior birthright. The two part with broken hearts and resentment, only to meet again when Saint is hired by Constance's father as her fencing instructor.
The two engage in a cat and mouse tug-of-war scenario because of all the emotions at play. Both felt hurt and betrayed by the other, and yet there's that irresistible pull that neither can deny. Watching them come to terms with their feelings and start trusting each other again, was extremely satisfying. And as they unite to find a villain responsible for the sudden disappearance of several young women, they form a partnership that gradually takes them to that happily ever after that neither dared hope for.

In short, this was a wonderfully romantic read from an exceptional author!

Sweetest Scoundrel by Elizabeth Hoyt

I've enjoyed several of Hoyt's Maiden Lane novels so far, and although I know I haven't read them in order, it has quickly become one of my favorite romance series.
Sweetest Scoundrel offers so much of what I love about Hoyt's writing - a grittiness that sets it apart from most other romances as she dives fearlessly into a rougher way of London life during the early 1800's, exploring a difference between class and position that's wonderfully engaging.

Untitled Asa Makepeace, is the owner of Harte's Folly, a pleasure garden  with a theater that he has devoted himself to rebuilding with the help of his investor, the Duke of Montgomery. But Montgomery has traveled and left his sister in charge, and she insists on knowing how Asa is spending her brother's money - indeed, she demands to go over his books. To Asa's mind, she's stubborn and annoying, reserved and standoffish. He argues with her at every turn until gradually, he gets to know her, and discovers a kind a loving woman, imprisoned by her past, and takes it upon himself to try and set her free.

Eve Dinwoody, Montgomery's illegitimate sister, is shocked when her first meeting with Mr. Makepeace finds him keeping company with a nude opera singer. But, determined to know how he's spending her brother's money or cut him off, she stands her ground. Burdened by terrible memories that make her terrified of dogs and men, she shields herself behind a hard exterior, accompanied always by her loyal footman who has sworn to keep her safe from harm. But as she becomes better acquainted with Asa, temptation sneaks in. He is unlike any man she has ever met before. But can she overcome her fears and pursue the love she desires when threats begin to target the theater and she finds her life in danger?

This novel offered wonderful character growth, an intriguing story between a working class scoundrel and a lady, that I found both refreshing and authentic. I cannot wait to grab another Maiden Lane novel to enjoy.

The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean

Sarah MacLean delivers a spectacular start to her new Scandal & Scoundrel series with The Rogue not Taken. Filled with an edgy sense of humor and fast paced intrigue, this romance is bound to leave you anxiously anticipating its sequel once you reach the final page.
Lady Sophie Talbot is no big fan of the ton. As the daughter of a first generation earl, she fondly recalls the life that she and her family had before arriving in Mayfair. So when she scandalously (and very deliberately) pushes her adulterous brother-in-law, a duke no less, into a fishpond at a garden party, she chooses to flee as hastily as possible so she might save her family from getting cut by association. Lacking conveyance, she disguises herself as a footman and hitches a ride with the roguish Marquess of Everlsey's carriage, only to discover that said carriage is not returning to Mayfair, but heading out of London instead.
And so begins a marvelous adventure containing a hero and heroine whose constant arguing and disagreeing just brings them closer and closer together. There's highway robbery, a shooting incident that only a questionable physician in a remote village can resolve, and a race to catch the couple who, for all intents and purposes, appear to have eloped.
The Rogue Not Taken is a wonderful action-packed story filled with sizzling chemistry. It will have you cheering the hero and heroine on while desperately hoping that on the next page, they'll finally give in to temptation and just accept that they're fated to be together.
